Eurasian Economic Union draft agreement considered

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) met on 16 September to discuss the draft agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union. The meeting was led by member of the EEC Board, EEC Minister for Energy and Infrastructure Danial Akhmetov, BelTA learnt from the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The commission discussed a preliminary list of withdrawals and other restrictions, including technical barriers to mutual access for businessmen to the market of the participating states of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space in such sectors as energy, natural monopolies and transport,” the EEC press service said. Partaking in the meeting were heads of the authorized bodies of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia.

The participants of the meeting made a number of decisions. In particular, they agreed on a meeting between the Energy Ministers in September for additional consultations on section XV Energy of the draft agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union. Director of the EEC Department for Transport and Infrastructure Askar Batalov is expected to conduct consultations with the Transport Ministers of the participating countries on the issues related to liberalization of the market of automobile and aviation transport market. Besides, the participants of the meeting agreed on finalizing the relevant sections of the draft agreement at the level of experts.

It is expected that the agreement on the Eurasian Economic Union will be ready by 1 May 2014.
