Belarus welcomes any international efforts to prevent conflicts in Middle East

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – The Foreign Ministry of Belarus hails Russia’s proposal to place Syrian chemical weapons under international control, BelTA has learnt.

Amid the U.S. recent threats of a military strike on the governmental and military facilities of Syria, the Foreign Ministry of Belarus welcomes any international efforts aimed at the prevention of new conflicts in the Middle East. In this respect we hail the proposal of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to put the Syrian chemical arsenals under international control,” the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus says.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry expresses hope that Syria’s acceptance of the Russian initiative will prompt the United States to abandon the plans of any UN unauthorized military intervention and to avoid new victims among the Syrian people.

Belarus is convinced that the internal conflict in Syria can be addressed only through negotiations. It calls upon the United Nations and all the stakeholders to promote a peaceful solution of the conflict without the use of military force, the statement runs.
