CIS Interior Ministers to discuss interstate anti-crime programs

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – The CIS Interior Ministers Council will sit in Astana, Kazakhstan on 10 September, BelTA learnt from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The agenda of the meeting will comprise eight issues. The ministers are expected to discuss priority areas of cooperation between the CIS Interior Ministers and progress in the implementation of the interstate anti-crime programs. They are also due to consider the draft cooperation development concept for the CIS Interior Ministries through 2020 and the draft document determining the order of the interstate search for wanted persons.

The members of the Council will discuss measures to enhance the efficiency in the implementation of the agreement on cooperation in returning minors to the country of their origin, improvement of the mechanism of supervising the persons convicted and serving the sentence on the territory of other CIS countries.

The Interior Ministers will hear out the information on the projects of the interstate joint anti-crime program for 2014-2018 and the program on cooperation against illegal trade in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors and the fight against drug addiction for 2014-2018.

The CIS Interior Ministers Council was founded in 1996 to develop cooperation between the CIS member states in crime prevention and law enforcement. The Council comprises representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. Turkmenistan partakes in some of the Council’s meetings.
