Belarus submits new Forestry Code for public debate

MINSK (BelTA) – The Forestry Ministry has submitted the draft law on amendments and additions to the Forest Code of the Republic of Belarus for public debate, BelTA learnt from the Forestry Ministry.

"Comments and suggestions can be sent to the address krasovsky@ministry.mlh. The debate will be closed on 3 February 2014," the ministry added.

One of the main concepts of the draft new code is the prevalence of forest regeneration over utilization of timber. The reforestation is aimed at timely recovery of forests, ensuring optimum forest cover and species content by planting the most valuable forest species. In this connection, the draft provides for an increase in the cultivation of planting material.

A number of innovations will clarify the authorities, rights and obligations of users of forests in the field of the conservation, protection, and reproduction of forests. For example, the draft stipulates that in order to ensure more effective conservation and protection of forests the legal entities engaged in forestry have the right to control the activities of individuals, including self-employed businessmen, in the territory leased to them for forest management. The draft also envisages other changes.
