Andreichenko: 2014 is going to be a busy year for Parliament

MINSK (BelTA) - This year is going to be very busy for the Belarusian MPs, Chairman of the House of representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said at a meeting of the council of the house, BelTA has learnt.

Vladimir Andreichenko said that this year the MPs will need to address a number of important tasks. The modernization of enterprises is approaching its crucial phase. There are ambitious plans to build export capacity, and to establish the Eurasian Economic Union. This year will be important in socio-political terms. The country is in the middle of the local election campaign. In addition, this year Belarus will celebrate the 70th anniversary of liberation from the Nazi invaders.

The whole set of issues will demand good organization, initiative and professionalism from MPs, the Speaker stressed. In his words, the results of the first year of work of the National Assembly of the fifth convocation give confidence that the abovementioned tasks are achievable. “The head of state’s instructions were implemented in a prompt and professional manner and in close cooperation with government bodies. A lot has been done to secure the openness of the parliamentary process,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

At the meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives Chairman of the Permanent Commission for State Construction, Local Government and Regulations Gennady Gritskevich provided information on the initial list of issues slated for consideration at the spring session which is due to open on 2 April. Thus, at present the list includes 45 draft laws and two President’s decrees. New documents will be added to the list. Among the bills scheduled for the first reading are documents on the securities market, amendments and additions to several Belarusian laws on pension security. Second reading will be given to the draft Water Code of Belarus, draft laws on healthcare, amendments and additions to the laws on blood donation, other documents.
