Belarus suspends export of rawhides

MINSK (BelTA) – A temporary prohibition to export rawhides and tanned semi-finished products has been enforced in Belarus. The measure is stipulated by Council of Ministers executive order No. 866 of 4 September 2014, BelTA has learned.

The document stipulates that the prohibition will stay in place from 8 September 2014 till 8 March 2015.

In particular, the prohibition applies to unprocessed cattle hides (code 4101 of the harmonized commodity description and coding system of the Customs Union), tanned cattle hides (code 4104 11 of the harmonized commodity description and coding system of the Customs Union).

Representatives of the Belarusian light industry concern Bellegprom explained that the temporary prohibition to export rawhides is designed to address the shortage of raw materials that Belarusian light industry enterprises suffer from. The temporary measure to stop the export of rawhides will increase the workload of Belarusian leatherworking enterprises and raise their effectiveness.
