Belarus' KGB publishes terrorist list

 

MINSK (BelTA) – A list of persons, who are involved in terrorism activities, are accessory to the propagation of weapons of mass destruction, or are controlled by such persons has been published on the official website of the State Security Committee of Belarus (KGB), BelTA has learned.

The list features more than 250 people involved in Al Qaeda's activities, a Belarusian citizen who was charged with crimes provided for in a number of articles of Belarus' Criminal Code, and an Uzbekistani citizen placed on the list in accordance with international agreements.

The list of persons, who are involved in terrorism activities, are accessory to the propagation of weapons of mass destruction, or are controlled by such persons was compiled in line with Resolution No.1256 of the Council of Ministers of Belarus of 30 December 2014 that came into force on 4 January 2015. The document was issued in accordance with the law on measures to prevent the legalization of revenues acquired through criminal means, prevent the financing of terrorism activities and the financing of the propagation of weapons of mass destruction of 30 June 2014.

The list is compiled and updated by the State Security Committee of Belarus and is published on KGB's website. It can be amended by the KGB chief and his deputies. The decisions can be made on the basis of information acquired from agencies, which are directly in charge of fighting terrorism, from prosecution bodies, the Investigation Committee and general jurisdiction courts of Belarus, from competent agencies of foreign states in accordance with international agreements, from international organizations, foreign law enforcement agencies and special services.
