House of Representatives pass counterdrug amendments to Criminal Code

MINSK (BelTA) – The House of Representatives passed the amendments to the Criminal Code aimed at combating illegal drug trafficking on 15 January, BelTA has learned.

The amendments were adopted to bring the legislation in compliance with the provisions of decree No.6 “Concerning interim measures to fight illegal trafficking in drugs”.

In particular, the amendments increase the maximum imprisonment from 13 to 15 years for the production, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation with a view to sell or sales of drugs given the aggravating circumstances (for example, the sales of drugs on the territory of a school or a university).

The term of imprisonment for the sales of drugs to the under-aged was also increased from eight to 15 years. The amendments include other alterations that proceed from Decree No.6.
