Belarus, Russia ready to exchange information on visa facilitation talks with EU

MINSK (BelTA) – The latest round of the Belarusian-Russian ministerial consultations on consular issues took place in Moscow on 26-27 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Head of the Main Consular Department Igor Fisenko. The delegation of Russia was led by Director of the Consular Department Yevgeny Ivanov. “The sides showed interest in further constructive dialogue and readiness to exchange information on the talks of the two counties regarding the simplification of visa procedures with the European Union,” the press release of the press service reads.

Apart from that, the sides discussed the implementation of the Consular Convention between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation as of 1995, the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters as of 1993. “The delegations noted with satisfaction that the provisions of the Consular Convention between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation as of 24 January 1995 and other basic documents are implemented,” the representatives of the ministry said.

After the talks the sides signed a protocol to consolidate the agreements. The next session will take place in Minsk in 2016.
