Geneva hosts Belarus-initiated event on Human Rights Perspectives of Trafficking for Organ Removal

MINSK (BelTA) - On 21 September Geneva hosted a thematic side-event on Human Rights Perspectives of Trafficking for Organ Removal on the initiative of Belarus in the margins of the 30th session of the Human Right Council, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Belarus, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime, the World Health Organization and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe took part in the event as panelists.

The discussion revealed common approaches to the protection of human rights in combating trafficking for organ removal contained in documents of various international bodies. The event was of great interest for delegations of the UN member states and the non-governmental organizations which made their input into the debate.

The OHCHR will take into account the outcomes of the discussion while elaborating the guidance on human rights protection in combating trafficking for organ removal.
