Makei: Belarus is the western frontier for Eurasian partners in the fight against terrorism

MINSK (BelTA) - Belarus plays the role of the western frontier for Eurasian partners in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said when speaking at the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Beijing on 28 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vladimir Makei stressed that the areas of the CICA activities coincide with the priorities of Belarus' foreign policy. “Our country stands ready to contribute to the CICA efforts to combat terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking and illegal migration, and to play the role of the western frontier for its Eurasian partners,” the Minister said.

In his words, Belarus supports the CICA efforts to secure peace and sustainable development both in Asia and beyond. According to Vladimir Makei, adequate response to many present-day challenges and threats depends on mutually beneficial economic integration. Belarus supports the rapprochement of the Eurasian Economic Union with other integration associations.

In his speech, Vladimir Makei expressed gratitude to the CICA members for granting Belarus with the observer status in the organization.
