Belarus wants to sign new agreement with EU to bolster relations

MINSK (BelTA) – Belarus wants to sign a new agreement with the European Union to bolster relations, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We must do our best to start building relations with the European Union on the basis of a new document between Belarus and the EU in the future. At present we are developing our cooperation on the basis of the agreements which were signed between the USSR and the European Economic Community,” Vladimir Makei explained.

The minister reminded that Belarus has always been in favor of the equal and full-fledged dialogue with Western partners - the EU and the USA. The full abolition of restrictive measures should be the next step in this direction. It would help advance the cooperation to a brand-new level. “There should be no new conditions for the abolition of sanctions,” he added.
