Belarus, Pakistan eager to advance cooperation with third counties

ISLAMABAD (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan are eager to advance cooperation with third countries, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said after the talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on 5 October, BelTA has learned.

“The sides agreed that Belarus and Pakistan will advance cooperation with third countries. The Chinese-Pakistani economic corridor is an example of this,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

According to the President, the sides discussed the prospects of cooperation in the nuclear energy industry. The head of state pointed out the resolution of Belarus and Pakistan to promote the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The participants of the meeting remarked that Belarus and Pakistan should step up efforts to develop sci-tech cooperation. The Belarus-Pakistan center for the coordination of the scientific, technological, and innovative cooperation opened in Islamabad a few days ago. “During the talks the sides agreed to bolster agricultural and industrial cooperation. In the near future we will exchange the visits of specialists to expand cooperation in these areas,” the head of state said. “We will take concrete steps to promote cooperation between banks, in the light industry (especially in the textile industry), the forestry industry, customs affairs, standardization and certification soon. We also encouraged Pakistani friends to use the services of our construction companies.”

Alexander Lukashenko also stressed that Belarus and Pakistan need to launch directs flights to ramp up passenger and fright transportation between the two countries.

“These are part of the issues which were discussed during the visit. To solve them, we will have to meet once again and establish new contacts. Therefore, I was pleased to invite my friend, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, to visit Belarus once again in any convenient time. It is very important for us to preserve systematic approaches in the political dialogue and the personal control over the fulfillment of our resolutions,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
