Peace, prosperity, security named as core values for Belarusians

MINSK (BelTA) – Peace in the country, prosperity of families, and confidence in the future are the core values for modern Belarusians, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the ceremony to present state awards on 8 September, BelTA has learned.

“Today we honor those who protect the borders of the Homeland, take care of people's health, make a big contribution to the economic security of the state,” Alexander Lukashenko remarked.

The ceremony was attended by a number of directors and workers of enterprises. These include OAO Volotavto, High-Precision Electromechanics Plant, Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, AGAT Control Systems.

According to the President, it is great that the products of these organizations are widely used, brand-new industries are developing. In his words, since Soviet times the achievements of Belarusian engineers have been known and appreciated all over the world. “It is good that the traditions of our outstanding scientists are vigorously developing,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

State awards were also conferred on a big group of the military. “From year to year, you have been bolstering the defense capacity of our Homeland, defending its security and territorial integrity, maintaining peace and stability in Belarus,” the President noted.

The President said that the workers of Mogilevenergo have done a lot to mitigate the consequences of Cyclone Daniella in extreme conditions. Having demonstrated high professionalism and teamwork, they quickly restored electricity supply in affected territories and at industrial facilities of Mogilev Oblast. They received state awards in recognition of this work.

The head of state also presented state awards to a number of builders. These include the workers of Minsk specialized department No. 217 who had been erecting cultural and social infrastructure facilities in Minsk and the oblast.

Besides, the head of state praised Belarusian healthcare workers for great professionalism. “They can make wonders with cutting-edge medical instruments,” he said. Alexander Lukashenko said that medicine has been vigorously developing in Belarus after the Chernobyl disaster. Belarus has done a lot for the development of medicine. The President assured that the state will continue taking measures to promote the development of healthcare and ensure the high quality of medical services.

Alexander Lukashenko honored the achievements of Belarusian scientists by awarding the representatives of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Addressing the awardees, the President spoke about the enhancement of the country's defense capacity. “The main priority is to protect our country. We do not want someone else's things. We want our children to live in peace in this relatively small country. We want this country to remain as peaceful as it is now. This is the main area of focus for us. And it would be great to be a bit richer. However, it depends not only on the state but also on all of us,” he stressed.

“So let's live in peace and work. If a person wants to create something unique, we will provide assistance. If someone wants to plow the field and harvest grain, we will help. If someone wants to work in the team, there are all conditions for it,” the head of state assured.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that the conferment of state awards and honorary titles is a landmark event, a sign of profound respect for the achievements of awardees.
