Lukashenko, Putin participate in plenary meeting of 4th Forum of Regions

MOSCOW (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Russia President Vladimir Putin are taking part in the plenary meeting of the 4th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

The event takes place at the central exhibition complex Expocentre in Moscow. The plenary session is focused on vectors of integration-driven development of the regions of Belarus and Russia in the area of high technologies, innovations, and information society.

The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia has been organized with a view to facilitating the expansion of direct contacts between the countries, including contacts between legislative and executive government agencies and business circles. The forum is supposed to work out recommendations on improving the legal base for the sake of accelerating the development of the Belarusian and Russian economies.

The forum has been organized under the aegis of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

Belarus maintains sustainable trade and economic ties with 80 regions of Russia. The legal framework includes about 300 contracts, agreements and protocols.

Belarus' major partners among Russian regions and cities are Moscow Oblast and Smolensk Oblast, Moscow, Tyumen Oblast, St. Petersburg, the Republic of Tatarstan, Bryansk Oblast, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Leningrad Oblast, and Perm Krai.
