Belarus' government instructed to secure implementation of 'village of the future' concept

MINSK (BelTA) – The government needs to develop an efficient mechanism to implement the "village of the future" concept, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the national seminar held on 3 April to discuss rural development and ways to enhance the efficiency of the country's agrarian sector, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, it is impossible to provide the industry with qualified personnel and stop the outflow of working-age population to the city without improving the quality of life in the rural area, enhancing the attractiveness of agricultural work and rural life in general. Therefore, another task is to develop a "village of the future", where life will be the same as in the city, the president said.

“I instruct the government, together with the regions, to work out an effective mechanism for the implementation of the village of the future concept taking into account regional peculiarities,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state demanded to take every possible measure for the integrated development of the territories, including the effective use of vacant housing in small villages and farms. It is also necessary to develop plans for the development of rural settlements and agro-towns, the result of which will be the full compliance with the harmony of nature and technological development.

The president showed interest in what is done to improve the standard of living in the rural area. “How can we develop unproductive villages? We need progress in the area in the near future,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko demanded to develop new social standards and implement them in all rural settlements and agro-towns of Belarus. “Every district center, agro-town, village must have good roads, high-quality water, social services, necessary goods and high-speed internet,” he said.

Only when the existing problems are solved the agrarian sector will be able to reach a qualitatively new level, the president said. “This new level envisages the prestige and comfort of rural life, own houses with land plots, a harmonious combination of the beauty of Belarusian nature and high technologies of modern life,” the head of state said.
