Belarus president talks about his vote in municipal elections campaign

MINSK (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko told media for whom he voted during the elections to the municipal councils of deputies on 18 February, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “Secret ballot is practiced in Belarus. But let me give you a tip: I voted for the current person, who works and benefits our country. It is the key motive for me as the president. I don't think there can be any other motive. This is why I voted for an active and working person.”

The head of state cast his vote at polling station No.1 in Vesnyansky electoral district No.39 in Minsk's Tsentralny District. The polling station is located at premises of the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture. After casting the vote the president talked to mass media.

The municipal election campaign is supposed to elect 18,111 members of 1,309 municipal councils of deputies. Over 22,000 people stand as candidates, vying for slightly more than 18,000 seats in the local councils of deputies. Political parties have been more active in comparison with previous election campaigns to the municipal councils of deputies.
