Belarus ready for further cooperation with UNICEF
MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) – Belarus highly praises the UNICEF activity and it is ready for further efficient cooperation, head of the Belarusian delegation, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Geneva Andrei Savinykh noted in his report on evaluation of the UN operational activities in international development.
Andrei Savinykh underscored that Belarus and UNICEF actively cooperate in various areas. He noted UNICEF’s contribution to support of Belarus’ national plans to expand the opportunities of the children and youth to implement their rights for development, protection and participation.
At present, the first UNICEF programme for Belarus for 2006-2009 is being implemented. The programme is aimed at improving the legislation on children’s rights protection, introducing the new technologies of work.
The annual UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Operational Activities Segment is taking place in Geneva on 15-17 July. Belarus supports UNICEF in forming the children protection strategy based on the trinity of its executors: UN member countries, UN establishments and civil society.
The segment will comprise a series of interactive dialogues on operational activities for development of the United Nations system, including panel discussions on the UN system’s support to national efforts in the context of the current economic, food and climate change crises and their effects on the achievement of the MDGs; Strengthening UN country team’s coherent support to public health; a dialogue with the Executive Heads of the Funds and Programmes, a dialogue on funding as well as a general debate. |
