Demarcation of Belarusian-Ukrainian border within next few years
The demarcation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border will be accomplished within the next few years, Igor Rachkovsky, Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus, told reporters on May 7.
“Now we are ratifying the agreement on the delimitation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. After that we will automatically get down to demarking the border,” he said.
Asked when the Belarusian-Ukrainian border is supposed to be demarked, Igor Rachkovsky said, “I think it will take place within the next few years”.
The official also remarked, starting July 2008 Belarus plans to start a state programme meant to accomplish the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. The programme provides for building up the infrastructure, changing the personnel structure of the border service in this area for the sake of establishing a more serious approach to protecting national interests of Belarus.
In turn, Dejan Keserovic, head of the representative office of the International Organisation for Migration in Belarus added, the demarcation of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border should definitely help fight illegal migration. |
