Lukashenko attends CSTO online summit

MINSK (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko is taking part in a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), BelTA has learned.

The meeting of the leaders of the CSTO member states is held via a video link due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation. The Belarusian head of state is expected to make a speech to assess the state of international security and voice Belarus' initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the organization.

The leaders of the CSTO countries will review the situation in the CSTO region and in the world as a whole, the status of implementation of the agreements, new challenges and threats, the inter-parliamentary cooperation and the priorities of the CSTO.

CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov said earlier that the parties are set to sign a declaration of the Collective Security Council and a statement on the formation of a fair and sustainable world order. Plans are in place to sign the CSTO military cooperation plan for 2021-2025 and a new anti-drug strategy.

The agenda includes draft resolutions concerning the logistical and medical support of the Collective Forces and also additional measures to improve the system of training of personnel for the government bodies of the CSTO member states.

The CSTO Foreign Ministers Council and the CSTO Defense Ministers Council held online meetings on 1 December.
