Snopkov: Belarus' financial system prepared for any developments

MINSK ( BelTA) – The Belarusian financial system is ready for any developments, Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov told the media following a following a government meeting to discuss economic matters and population needs, BelTA has learned.

“The problems faced by the country's financial system are not new,”' Nikolai Snopkov said. “They are obvious, and they are still here. However, the situation has been complicated by the sanctions that the United States against Russian banks, primarily Sberbank and VTB Bank that are the main counterparties for Belarus. As a result, we should change the ‘bridges for payments',” Nikolai Snopkov said.

"Our banks are ready for this. This situation is not new for us. It has become complicated in the wake of the sanctions against two Russian banks that are our main counterparties. But, as I was informed in the morning, there are alternative ways. I can't say this will be easy. But I can't say there are no options. Options are always there,” he said.

Yesterday the government had a meeting with representatives of the banking sector and agreed on necessary measures jointly with the National Bank. "The financial system is ready for any developments," Nikolai Snopkov assured.
