Kochanova: Belarusian People's Congress will take key decisions in critical time

MINSK ( BelTA) – The Belarusian People's Congress will allow taking important decisions for the country and the people at critical moments, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova told reporters, BelTA has learned.

On 30 January, senators discussed the bill “On the Belarusian People's Congress” at the meeting of the tenth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation.

“This form of people's power exists only in Belarus. The first meeting of the Congress was held a long time ago – we have already held six meetings of the Belarusian People's Congress so far. Yet, by adopting this bill, we will give it the status of a state body, the highest body of people's power,” said Natalya Kochanova.

According to her, members of the Council of the Republic got actively involved in the development of this bill. “We scrutinized it at a meeting of the expert council at the Council of the Republic, discussed it a lot with the public in the regions of the country. Therefore, I have no doubt that all members of the Council of the Republic will unanimously support this bill and it will be adopted,” the speaker noted.

“We see what is going on in the world. We understand that the world is in turmoil. In order for our country to remain independent and sovereign, we, of course, should have a body that will allow us to take important decisions for our country and our people at critical moments,” Natalya Kochanova said.
