Kochanova: MPs have a special mission to maintain peace and calm

MINSK ( BelTA) – Parliamentarians have a special mission to maintain peace and calm, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova said as she met with First Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua Arling Patricia Alonso Gómez, BelTA reports.

“Our country has always come up with peace initiatives. We stand for peace and social harmony in every country. Unfortunately, we have recently seen a barrage of lies and slander raining down on our country. People are dying in hostilities around the world today. And our president, our country have always called for peace and social harmony. And we, parliamentarians, have a special responsibility for maintaining peace and calm. That's why we are always happy when we see mutual understanding between parliamentarians around the world,” said Natalya Kochanova.

Belarus has many points of interaction with the Nicaraguan parliament, the speaker noted. “It is very important for us that we have a respective working group in our parliament. We hope that the parliament of Nicaragua will also put together such a group and we will cooperate very closely. We will be glad to see any delegation that will come to our country,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized. “The work of parliamentarians extends beyond communication with foreign partners and legislative activities, it covers matters related to cooperation in economy, humanitarian contacts, manufacturing, agriculture. Here we can have a lot of common ground,” she added.

The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Nicaragua led by First Vice-President of the National Assembly of Nicaragua Arling Patricia Alonso Gómez is on a visit to Belarus on 3-4 October. This is the first such visit as part of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Nicaragua. Its goal is to thrash out plans to promote interparliamentary contacts.
