Electoral system digitization concept in development in Belarus

MINSK ( BelTA) – A concept to digitize the electoral system is in development in Belarus. Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel ONT, BelTA has learned.

Igor Karpenko said: “We are now working on creating a concept for the development of digitization of the electoral system. We will consider the possibility of using digital voting for some categories of citizens within the framework of this concept.”

The official remarked that digital voting during an election campaign cannot be introduced at the wave of a magic wand. The country has to create a well-developed system of digital services, a digital government, and other platforms, which may underpin digital voting.

At the same time Igor Karpenko pointed out that the single voting day on 25 February 2024 and the presidential campaign in 2025 will proceed in Belarus without the use of digital voting.
