Belarusian settlements honored for valor and perseverance during war

MINSK ( BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko presented the pennant ‘For valor and perseverance during the Great Patriotic War’ to nine settlements. The ceremony took place during a solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day in Minsk on 7 May, BelTA has learned.

Paying tribute to the military and labor feat of compatriots during the war, the head of state awarded the pennant ‘For valor and perseverance during the Great Patriotic War’ to the Belarusian settlements that most selflessly fought against the enemy.

The awards were given to the cities of Baranovichi, Dzerzhinsk, Dyatlovo, Kalinkovichi, Lyuban, Osipovichi and Chausy, and the villages of Obol and Osveya. The president presented relevant certificates of honor to representatives of the sadministration of these settlements.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that all cities and villages of the country deserve to be awarded the pennant. That's why it was very difficult to select the special ones. "After all, in every settlement, on every piece of Belarusian land, the fascists faced fierce resistance. The ground was ablaze under the boot of the occupiers everywhere," the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished the veterans and all those who rebuilt the country, representatives of the older generation, all compatriots of the world well-being, prosperity and a happy life under the sky of free Belarus. "I cordially congratulate everyone on the upcoming great holiday. Happy Victory Day, dear friends!” the head of state said. “Let’s live peacefully, raise children, do our jobs. We can't get away from the current difficulties. Because time has chosen us."

All in all, 36 settlements in Belarus have been awarded with the pennant ‘For valor and perseverance during the Great Patriotic War’: 27 in accordance with the decree of 6 October 2004 (on the 60th anniversary of the country’s liberation from the Nazi invaders when the award was established) and nine – in accordance with the decree of 2 February 2024 adopted in connection with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders and the celebration of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, with an aim of perpetuating the feat of the soldiers of the Red Army, workers, partisans and underground fighters performed by them during the defense and liberation of Belarusian cities and other settlements.
