Foreign ministers of Belarus, China hold talks in Astana

MINSK ( BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik held talks with Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, on the sidelines of the meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers Council in Astana, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties discussed the bilateral relations, trade and economic cooperation, regional issues, interaction in the international arena, the Belt and Road Initiative, SCO and BRICS and the schedule of meetings at various levels and other topics.

Sergei Aleinik noted that cooperation between Belarus and China is an example of a new type of international relations. The countries are working together to establish and strengthen a more equitable multipolar system in the world. Together, they do not accept external pressure and illegal sanctions from the United States and the collective West which undermine the stability and economic ties between most countries.

The parties agreed to continue to support each other in defending the fundamental national interests in the international arena.

The Belarusian minister reaffirmed commitment to supporting the Global Civilization Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative that were put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping and that call for strengthening international dialogue and cooperation. These concepts are of great importance for solving urgent problems facing the modern world.

The parties also looked into the work of the Belarusian-Chinese Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. An understanding was reached on the need to strengthen the coordinating role of this bilateral instrument.

The Chinese side supported the deepening of cooperation between Belarus and BRICS and the work of the Belarusian side within the framework of the SCO.
