Belarus, Latvia discuss political and economic cooperation

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Political and economic cooperation has topped the agenda of the meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Latvia Alexander Gerasimenko and Foreign Minister of Latvia Edgar Rinkevics, BelTA learnt from the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

The sides discussed the role of foreign political agencies in expanding bilateral contacts. They also talked over certain aspects of bilateral cooperation within the Kyoto Protocol.

The diplomats stressed the need to promote economic ties of Belarus and Latvia, step up regional interaction and strengthen cooperation in the field of transport and transit.

The sides praised the intergovernmental local small-scale border traffic agreement between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Latvia that entered into force on 1 December 2011, and expressed the hope that the document will contribute to the strengthening of the traditionally friendly relations between the two peoples.
