Startup Weekend to take place in Minsk 1-3 October

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian project Startup Weekend will help young businessmen attract investments to the country, head of the department of regional innovative policy and infrastructure of the State Science and Technology Committee Vladimir Davidovich told a press conference on 8 September, BelTA has learned.

The Startup Weekend project is a series of business meetings, which attract young entrepreneurs, investors and experts. These meetings result in new projects, expert assistance of interesting business ideas.

“The Startup Weekend is not a non-commercial, socially important project which is aimed at supporting small business, promoting internal investments and encouraging innovative business,” Alexander Patutin, one of the Startup Weekend founders, said.

The Startup Weekend project will take place in Minsk on 1-3 October. The forum will include a presentation of technological innovative projects. In late October the Startup Weekend will be held in Vitebsk. There are plans to organize similar forums in Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev in the future.

The Startup Weekend initiative emerged in Los Angeles, the United States, five years ago. To date it is held in more than 100 cities. In 2009 the first Startup Weekend took place in Belarus. The business forum has featured about 140 projects so far.
