Medvedev backs Lukashenko’s ideas to enhance cooperation in CSTO

MOSCOW, 8 September (BelTA) – President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev supports ideas of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to strengthen cooperation in the CSTO, Aide to the Russian President Sergei Prikhodko told reporters, BelTA has learned.

Russia and Belarus are unison in opinions that the CSTO potential can be used to prevent coups in CSTO member states, according to Sergei Prikhodko.

Thus he commented on some mass media quoting the unknown source in the Kremlin that Moscow is not satisfied with the statements of the Belarusian President regarding the possibility to expand the mandate of the CSTO collective rapid response forces.

“This is disinformation. Alexander Lukashenko’s statements after the CSTO informal summit on cooperation were made in concurrence with Russia,” Sergei Prikhodko said.

He added that President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev is satisfied with the character and tone of the discussion of the most pressing issues of bilateral cooperation which took place at the recent meeting of the two Presidents in Sochi.
