Unemployment stays low in Minsk

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) – As of 1 April 2012 the jobless rate in Minsk stood stable at 0.3%, according to the Minsk City Hall committee for labor, employment and social security.

An estimated 5,072 people (of them 3,622 unemployed) have applied to the employment agency since the beginning of the year.

In January-March a total of 2,840 Minsk residents were provided with permanent and temporary jobs. Nearly 360 unemployed were placed into professional training, retraining and qualifications enhancement courses.

The number of unemployed registered with the city’s employment bodies exceeded 3,000 people in late March. The average unemployment allowance is Br136,900.

It is estimated that nearly 15,000 people will be registered as unemployed in 2012. All in all, a total of nearly 18,000 people will be in need of employment assistance. Of them 7,400 are to be placed into permanent jobs. About 2,000 people will be sent to professional training courses.

The unemployment rate in the Belarusian capital is expected to stay at 0.4-0.6% of the workforce this year.
