Belarus-Russia trade up 37.1% in January-February

MOSCOW, 10 April (BelTA) – In January-February 2012 the trade between Belarus and Russia grew 37.1% as against the same time last year to make up $6.8 billion, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian embassy in Russia.

The Russian Federation is the main economic and trading partner of the Republic of Belarus. In the first two months Russia accounted for 48.1% of Belarus’ total trade, including 30.4% of its exports and 66.8% of the imports, the embassy said.

In January-February the export to Russia reached $2.2 billion, up 19.3%. Belarus’ main exports were trucks, agricultural, road and construction equipment and vehicles, foodstuffs, furniture, household appliances, products of chemical and light industry. Belarus imported $4.6 billion worth of Russian goods (up 47.8%). Russia supplies Belarus with mineral stock, ferrous and non-ferrous metals and products made of them, cars, equipment and consumer goods (refrigerators, TV sets and footwear). Belarus posted trade deficit of $2.4 billion.

The main consumers of Belarusian products among Russian regions were Moscow (20.1% of the total export to Russia), Moscow Oblast (16.7%), St. Petersburg (7.3%), Smolensk, Bryansk, Kemerovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov oblasts, the Republic of Tatarstan. Belarus imported goods mainly from Tyumen Oblast (45.1% of the total import from Russia), Moscow, Moscow Oblast, the Republic of Tatarstan, St. Petersburg, the Republic of Komi, Perm Krai, Smolensk, Vologda, Chelyabinsk oblasts, the Republic of Bashkortostan.
