Belarus may hold parliamentary elections in June

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) - The exact date of the next parliamentary elections could be set for June this year, the chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Lidia Yermoshina told reporters.

Lidia Yermoshina explained that no other date except the one mentioned above has been discussed. “Last date possible of the parliamentary elections is 23 September,” she said.

When asked about possible invitation or non-invitation of the OSCE/ODIHR observers, Lidia Yermoshina explained that this issue will be addressed by the President of Belarus together with the Foreign Ministry. “A special decision will be taken regarding the OSCE,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

Lidia Yermoshina stated that the CIS mission will be deployed in full force and effect.

Speaking about Russia’s experience in holding presidential elections, the CEC head stated that Belarus adopted certain methodical recommendations. As for web cameras at Russian polling stations, this novelty is unlikely to be used in Belarus. The equipment itself will cost $4.5 million which makes half of the budget of the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
