Over 30 logistics projects currently in progress in Belarus

MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) - The Presidium of the Council of Ministers considered the issues related to the development of the logistics system in Belarus, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Government.

“In accordance with the national logistics system development program for the period until 2015 approved by Government Resolution No. 1249 of 29 August 2008, 34 logistics projects are currently in progress in the country. Additional work is underway on another 15 logistics centers projects,” the press service noted.

Eight logistics centers are currently in operation in Belarus. They are Brest-Beltamozhservice, Minsk- Beltamozhservice, BLT-Logistics, Ozertso-Logistics, BelVingesLogistic, Shate-M Plus, Twenty-four and Belmagistralavtotrans.

Since 2008 more than Br1.1 trillion has been raised to develop logistics facilities in the country. “Work is most intensive in Minsk Oblast and the city of Minsk as these regions house a large number of producers and consumers, and major international transport corridors cross here,” the government press service said.

Investment projects are underway in Minsk Oblast at all the sites envisaged in the program. Nearly Br963 billion has been utilized so far. To improve the traffic flow at the entrances to the road checkpoints and increase their throughput capacity, the traffic lanes and service zones need to be expanded and enhanced in 2012-2013.

“At the same time the traffic flow in the region accounts for a small share in the total freight transit via Belarus,” the press service said.

The government instructed to conduct consultations in cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Commission before 1 October to discuss the abolition of the licensing system for forwarders from the Single Economic Space member states on the SES territory including shipment to/from third countries and prepare necessary materials for a meeting of the heads of government of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan.
