Belarus’ foreign trade surplus at $2bn in H1

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ foreign trade surplus of goods made up $1.99 billion in H1 2012, BelTA learnt from the National Statistics Committee.

In the first six months last year Belarus registered $3.779 billion trade deficit in goods.

In January-June the foreign trade turnover grew 16.8% over the same months a year ago and reached $48.632 billion. Exports rose 33.7% to $25.3 billion, imports – 2.7% to $23.3 billion.

The trade with the CIS totaled $27.138 billion, exports made up $11.261 billion, imports - $15.877 billion.

In H1 2012 the trade with the Customs Union increased by 21.7% to make up $22.978 billion. Exports went up by 12.5% to $8.151 billion, imports – by 27.5% to $14.827 billion. The trade with Russia reached $22.5 billion (up 21.7%). Exports made up $7.733 billion (up 11.5%), imports - $14.766 billion (27.9%). Merchandise transactions with Kazakhstan totaled $479 million (up 21.8%), exports reached $417 million (up 34.7%), imports from Kazakhstan reduced to 73.9% ($61.4 million).

In January-June the trade with non-CIS increased by 12.4% to almost $21.5 billion, with exports reaching $14 billion (up 47.2%). Imports reduced by 12.3% to $8.444 billion. Belarus posted trade surplus of $6.6 billion. In H1 2011 the country registered a $35.6 million deficit.

Merchandise trade with the European Union made up $15.652 billion (up 139.9%), including exports - $11.554 billion (163.1%). Imports from the EU fell 0.2% to $4 billion. Trade surplus was at $7.457 billion. Last year trade surplus was nearly $3 billion.
