Belwest to open 100 stores in Russia in 2012

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – The Belwest footwear producer has plans to open 100 company stores in Russia in 2012, BelTA learnt from the enterprise.

The stores will open in 60 cities of the Russian Federation, including Arkhangelsk, Saint Petersburg, Severodvinsk, Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, Volgograd, and Astrakhan. In 2011 the company opened 79 stores in this country.

The company opened its first stores in Russia in the 1990s. The commodity distribution network has been expanded considerably in recent years. Classic shoes are more popular in the northern regions of Russia, while the south prefers more democratic models.

Belwest operates seven company stores in Latvia and 31 in Belarus. In 2011, three new stores opened in Minsk, Mogilev and Baranovichi. Another 10 stores are to open this year.

In January, Belwest made the 38-millionth pair of shoes. In 2011, the company manufactured over 2 million pairs of shoes, up 23.8% over the same period in 2010. The labor efficiency rose 2.7 times.

Belwest was established by the Vitebsk-based company Krasny Oktyabr and Germany’s Salamander in 1988. In 2002 it became a Belarus-Russia joint venture. The company offers everyday shoes mostly from natural leather for men and women. In recent years, the lineup of fashion shoes and sports shoes was considerably expanded.
