Lukashenko congratulates Jintao on 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao and his people on the 20th anniversary of Belarus-China diplomatic relations, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

“Strengthening multidimensional links with Great China is among Belarus’ top political priorities. We have built up close strategic partnership on a two-decade friendship between our nations,” the President stressed.

Belarus praises an unprecedented growth of mutual trade which soared many times over the last years, from $34 million in 1992 to $3 billion in 2011, the message of congratulations runs. The two countries have embarked on the implementation of large-scale investment projects, including opening joint companies in China and Belarus and developing credit and interbank cooperation.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus and China have been steadily developing fruitful cooperation in culture, science, and education.

The President expressed confidence that the potential of Belarusian-Chinese cooperation is far from being realized. The two countries have great prospects in the credit and investment sector, direct contacts between the regions and companies.

“We are proud of our brotherly relations that have a great future, relations that are based on mutually beneficial cooperation, respect and equality. I hope that further intensification of a friendly dialogue at the highest levels will make the Belarusian-Chinese relations a paragon of interstate cooperation in the 21st century,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.

China’s President Hu Jintao has also congratulated Belarusian head of state Alexander Lukashenko and the Belarusian people on the anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The message of congratulations says that over the last 20 years the cooperation between China and Belarus has been stable and efficient. In 2005 the leaders of the two countries announced their relations enter a new stage of all-round development and strategic partnership.

“China and Belarus are friends that trust each other, that are sincere and reliable partners. Bilateral links are developed taking into account mutual interests of the two nations and play an important role in supporting peace and stability in the region and all over the globe,” Hu Jintao said.

The PRC Chairman noted: “Today China and Belarus are living through the best period of collaboration. The 20th anniversary opens up new opportunities and wide prospects. No effort will be spared in enhancing the level of bilateral links and advancing of mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the two nations.”

The Chinese leader wished the Republic of Belarus prosperity and wellbeing, and happiness to its people.
