Lukashenko views SES single currency ‘a long-term perspective’

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – Alexander Lukashenko believes the introduction of the single currency in the Single Economic Space (SES) to be an issue of a long-term perspective. The Belarus President made this statement in an interview to the leading mass media of China ahead of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belarus and China, BelTA has learnt.

In his words, the issue of currency regulations has not been discussed at the highest level yet. “We have not discussed the issue. However, we do not rule out the single currency. We have agreed it should be a brand new currency as it was made in the European Union, a so-called “euro” but neither the tenge, nor the Belarusian or Russian ruble,” the President said.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that it would make the last stage of the negotiations and the movement of the three countries towards the Eurasian Union.
