Putin: Lukashenko is staunch supporter of integration

MOSCOW, 27 January (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin is convinced that President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is a consistent supporter of integration. The Russian Premier made this statement as he met with veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Saint Petersburg on 27 January, BelTA has learnt.

“I should say that despite some occasional disputes with Belarusian counterparts, friends and top officials, the Belarusian government and Alexander Lukashenko are strong supporters of integration. We highly appreciate it,” Vladimir Putin said.

One of the veterans asked the Russian head of government if veterans would live to see the Union State. Vladimir Putin emphasized that the relations of Russia and Belarus are among the foreign policy priorities of Russia. “The revival of the Soviet Union is impossible and unnecessary, unfortunately,” he said. The Russian Premier added that the historical mission of contemporaries is to preserve the best of what the past generations had.

Vladimir Putin underlined that Russia is ready for deepest cooperation with Belarus. “Much of what we have done to bring closer Belarus and Russia can and should be used for promoting deep economic integration,” the Premier said.
