Putin upholds idea of Belarus’ presidency in CIS in 2013

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has upheld the suggestion of the CIS Executive Committee to pass the rotating CIS presidency to the Republic of Belarus in 2013, BelTA learnt from the CIS Executive Committee.

This matter was discussed at a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev in the Kremlin. Sergei Lebedev informed the Russian President about the activities of the Executive Committee, in particular preparation for the sessions of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government and the Council of the CIS Heads of State scheduled for the autumn this year. One of the points of the agenda will be CIS presidency in 2013.

Vladimir Putin reiterated that the expansion of the CIS integration is a priority of Russia’s foreign policy. The Russian government will keep providing all kinds of assistance to integration projects of the former Soviet Union republics. Moscow is convinced that expansion and optimization of the multilateral cooperation will benefit each of the CIS member states.
