No Belarusians seek help from embassy after Burgas bus attack

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Belarusian nationals did not seek help from the Belarusian embassy in Bulgaria following an explosion on a bus with Israeli tourists at the Burgas Airport, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Sofia.

“No one contacted us. There are no Belarusian citizens among the blast victims,” the embassy said.

The embassy is monitoring the situation over the delay of charter flights to Burgas. “The Bulgarian authorities promise to pen the airport soon,” the diplomatic mission said.

The national air carrier Belavia had informed earlier about the delay of charter flights to Burgas.

“The Burgas Airport has sent us a message saying it will not be able to receive flights until 18:00 today,” Belavia informed. Three flights to Burgas are scheduled for 19 July. The first one that was planned for 5:00 has been delayed for about 13 hours. The remaining two will be delayed as well.

“As soon as the Burgas Airport announces its readiness to receive flights, we will immediately start operating them,” the air carrier informed.

The Burgas Airport was temporarily closed on 18 July following the bomb explosion on a passenger bus carrying Israeli tourists. The majority of flights are redirected to Varna. According to the Bulgarian police, the blast killed three people and injured more than 20. The explosion took place near the Burgas Airport. Burgas is located on the Black Sea shore, 400km from Sofia. The Bulgarian Interior Ministry believes the blast was a terrorist attack.
