Lukashenko on a visit to Latin-American region

MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is paying an official visit to the Republic of Cuba, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Republic of Ecuador, BelTA has learnt from the presidential press service.

The agenda of the visits includes the issues of trade and economic relations, a political dialogue and promising areas of cooperation with the countries of the Latin-American region.

Cooperation with Venezuela is on a high level. Over the last five years the bilateral trade grew more than 200 times: from $6 million in 2006 to $1.3 billion in 2011. Belarus and Venezuela cooperate in oil and gas production, petrochemistry, energy, agriculture, industry, science, technologies, education and culture. Belarus participated in the construction of MAZ and MTZ assembling plants and a building materials plant in Venezuela.

In cooperation with Cuba Belarus attaches special attention to science, biotechnologies, geologic exploration as well as other areas including the supplies of agricultural and other equipment.

Belarus and Ecuador have a big potential in building up mutually beneficial cooperation. Among the promising projects are setting up joint companies, supplying industrial and other products, providing services to Belarusian companies.
