Holding companies gaining ground in Belarus

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - Belarus has given a key role to the development of holding companies, First Vice Premier of Belarus Vladimir Semashko told Belarusian MPs on 22 June.

Through the creation and development of holding companies Belarus modernizes and optimizes industrial facilities, creates more business opportunities in foreign markets, Vladimir Semashko said. There are plans to create 16 holding companies in the system of the Industry Ministry. Four of them have already been set up. These are Horizont, Avtkomponenty, Amkodor, BelOMO.

In fact, the country began a gradual transition from sectoral to functional management of assets through stock ownership. Work is underway on developing the institute of managerial staff.

“Creation of holding companies will allow the government bodies to focus on the state industrial policy,” Vladimir Semashko said. The business model based on holding companies helps companies-partners enhance their competitive ability. Competition is driven mainly by consolidation of assets, which can attract foreign investments and low-interest loans. The relations between the participants of holding companies gets optimized, so does the management structure. The companies sell their products under one brand. Risks are reduced thanks to diversification of the product range and markets.

Avtokomponenty Holding Company has already reaped some benefits. It has become easier for the companies making part of the holding company to penetrate into the assembling plants of the machine-building enterprises of Russia. Horizont Holding Company is among those who have brought Chinese investment in Belarus.
