UNECE assesses Belarus’ readiness for PPP projects

MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) - Experts of the UN Economic Commission for Europe held a series of meetings in Belarus to assess the country's readiness for public-private partnership projects (PPP), BelTA learnt from the public relations department of the Economy Ministry.

The meeting at the Economy Ministry considered necessary conditions for implementing PPP projects in Belarus, including the establishment of a center of expertise and training of qualified experts in the field.

Representatives of the Economy Ministry introduced the UNECE experts to the basic parameters of the state investment program of the Republic of Belarus, and also some aspects of sectoral and regional programs. UNECE experts discussed Belarus’ infrastructure needs in the economic and social sectors and gave recommendations on promotion of PPP models in the country.

The Economy Ministry expressed interest in implementing pilot projects in the field of public-private partnerships in Belarus. The UNECE expert mission will provide preliminary reports, organize a workshop of the working group, and draw up an action plan for the development of PPP system in the Republic of Belarus.
