CSTO discusses joint military equipment repair programs

MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) — The creation of interstate integrated associations, joint enterprises and certified service centers for repair and maintenance of military equipment in compliance with the CSTO regulations was discussed by the Business Council under the CSTO Interstate Commission on Economic and Military Cooperation in Astana on 4 May, BelTA learnt from CSTO press secretary Vladimir Zaynetdinov.

The meeting was held within the framework of the international exhibition of military equipment in Kazakhstan.

The Business Council discussed the capabilities of Kazakh military-industrial complex to produce military, dual-use and special-purpose equipment and also cooperation between the aircraft overhaul plants in modernization and repair of aircraft and weaponry for the air forces of the CSTO member-states.

Chiefs of defense companies discussed the problems of maintenance, repairs and upgrade of armored and special engineering equipment and the issues of production of communications facilities for military and special purposes. Among other questions raised during the meeting was industrial cooperation in such areas as maintenance, upgrade and repair of air defense facilities.

The Business Council also examined some proposals to update the Internet-directory “Military-industrial complex of CSTO member-states”.

The Collective Security Treaty was signed on 15 May 1992 in Tashkent. At a Moscow session in 2002 the Collective Security Council took a decision to expand into an international regional organization - Collective Security Treaty Organization – by giving it a proper status. The CSTO Charter came into force 18 September 2003. Currently the CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
