Belarus oil imports up 10.5% in January-September

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – In January-September 2012 Belarus increased crude oil imports by 10.5% to 16.5 million tonnes as against the same months last year. The average price for oil was $407 per tonne, down 13.1% over January-September 2011, BelTA learnt from the National Statistics Committee.

Oil supplies from the CIS grew 16.4% to reach 16.2 million tonnes, with the average price at $396 per tonne (down 10.2%). In January-September 2012 0.3 million tonnes of oil was imported from non-CIS countries (31.6% to the same period last year). The average price was $973 per tonne.

The Belarus-Russia Union State plan for oil supplies in 2012 envisages the delivery of 21.5 million tonnes of Russian oil to Belarus. Two million tonnes more will be delivered by railway from Russia if necessary. Belarus has also imported Venezuelan oil this year.

In January-September 2012 Belarus imported 14.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia, down 3.3% from the same months a year ago. The average price for gas was $168 per 1,000 cubic meters, down 32.6%. In 2012 Belarus plans to purchase 21.5 billion cubic meters of gas from Gazprom.

In January-September Belarus increased electricity imports by 50.7% to almost 6 billion kWh. There were supplies 147.1 million kWh from the non-CIS countries, at the average price of $46 per 1,000 kWh. Electricity imports from the CIS grew 47% to 5.85 billion kWh. The average price was at $63 per 1,000 kWh, up 1.2% over January-September 2011. This year Belarus plans to import 7.4 billion kWh of electricity from Russia and Ukraine.
