Kazakhstan, Belarus to reach $1bn in mutual trade in 2012

ASTANA, 8 November (BelTA-Kazinform) – Kazakhstan and Belarus plan to reach $1 billion in mutual trade in 2012, Belarus Vice Premier Mikhail Rusy said at the 9th meeting of the Kazakhstan-Belarus intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation on 8 November.

“In January-September 2012 the mutual trade exceeded $727 million, up 17%. It is expected that the two countries will reach $1 billion in trade by the end of the year,” Mikhail Rusy said.

In his words, there is still some disbalance in trade between the two countries. The Belarusian official expressed readiness to rectify the situation. According to him, imports from Kazakhstan might be increased with the help of resuming supplies of raw hydrocarbons and oil products for processing to Belarusian companies. “The move will prompt the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on trade and economic cooperation in the supplies of oil and oil products,” he added.

The Vice Premier also showed interest in investment cooperation. “We expect Kazakhstan’s participation in mutually beneficial projects,” the Vice Premier said.
