OSCE, CSTO have similar objectives, Zannier says

MOSCOW, 24 October (BelTA) - The OSCE and the CSTO have similar objectives as they promote stability and security, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said at a meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council in Moscow.

Closer cooperation between the OSCE and the CSTO helps counteract more effectively transnational threats, including terrorism, cross-border crime, and drug trafficking, according to the OSCE Secretary General. He named cyber crime a new international threat. “Cooperation with the CSTO in this area would be of high importance,” Mr Lamberto Zannier said.

Speaking about the forthcoming OSCE summit in Dublin in December, the Secretary General expressed hope that “the CSTO countries will help find a consensus on the most important issues and define the organization’s strategy up to 2015.”

CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, for his part, praised regular contacts between representatives of the two organizations at different international platforms. “I am also satisfied with the level of the information exchange,” Nikolai Bordyuzha said.
