Lukashenko: West uses democracy to cover up its plunder policies

MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) - President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes the talk of democracy is used as the screen to hide the plunder policy of the West.

“What democracy is there today in Iraq when every day bombs explode killing hundreds of people, and maiming thousands?! How many have been killed!
What kind of democracy is this? Who is it for? This is not about democracy. Iraq had to be destroyed to get access to oil. Who does not understand it today? Democracy has nothing to do here,” the President said in an interview with The Independent and the BBC news channel.

“These talks about democracy are used as the flag, the screen, the cover for the plunder policies,” he added.

“Or take Libya for example. The democratic France, the United Kingdom and others got together and decided to bomb the country, with the America behind their back. Did you tell the truth about Libya, about what is happening there?” Alexander Lukashenko said.

Alexander Lukashenko noted that he was well aware of what was happening inside these countries, was in some way involved in the conflict in Iraq and Libya."American envoys came to see me before the crisis in Iraq and asked me to say that there were nuclear weapons in Iraq. I refused. They even told me that things would go well for Belarus in terms of investments, etc. “I told them I could not do it because I knew that there were no nuclear weapons there. And, after talking to Hussein back then, I told them that Hussein was ready to come to an agreement with them regarding oil, if that is what they were after, and other things. Just do not bomb; do not destroy the country! He was ready to show – and showed all these sites,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

“Their answer was: We believe you, but the war machine’s engine is already running too fast. I swear to you that this conversation took place and that a man came to see me and we were discussing this matter in this very room,” the President said.

“The same is true about Libya. Why bomb Libya? Why did Sarkozy do it? Maybe because he got $150 million from Gaddafi, not to mention his sons? Gaddafi told me about this during his last visit. He offered me his help to normalize relations with Europe. I told him then: “Muammar, deal with your problems first”. And he said that everything is under control. And he told me then about his relations with Sarkozy. I did not make it public during the last presidential campaign in France. But after that I voiced this sum: it was not $50 million but $150 million, which Sarkozy got for his campaign and not only from Gaddafi. Back then Gaddafi told me: “This is not counting the money my children gave him,” the Belarusian head of state said.

“Everything depends on combinations, scheming. There are a lot of facts that prove that decisions are taken by one person. Take Blair and others for example, when a decision to bomb Iraq was taken. Did the UK people and the parliament want it? No. The society was thinking differently. People in the U.S. were also against it later. But nevertheless, the country was destroyed and left in ashes,” the head of state said.
