Belarus may build 400MW coal-fired CHP plant

MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – A coal-fired CHP plant of more than 400MW might be constructed in Belarus, Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk said at the events held as part of the Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum on 10 October.

“The issue which is high on the agenda today is commercial exploitation of the Lelchitsy brown coal deposit. The plans may include the construction of a mine and a coal-fired CHP plant with the total capacity of 400-460MW,” the official said. In his words, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is conducting the assessment of commercial prospects of the deposit.

According to Mikhail Mikhadyuk, there are plans to attract an investor for the implementation of the project.
