Lithuanian Railways to open office in Minsk on 2 May

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – An office of Lithuanian Railways will officially open in Minsk on 2 May, BelTA learnt from head of the office Vladimir Dervenkov.

He informed that the office will facilitate cooperation between Lithuanian Railways and its partners and customers in Belarus. The office will also work to establish new business ties.

The press service of Belarusian Railways told BelTA that Lithuanian Railways is a major partner of Belarusian Railways in international cargo transportation. Some 19 million tonnes of cargo was transported by Belarus in cooperation with Lithuania in 2012. The neighboring state offers optimal transportation and logistics schemes for export and import of potash fertilizers, oil products, ferrous metals and other merchandise. In particular, nearly 12 million tonnes of cargo was transshipped via the Klaipeda port in 2012. “Every third tonne of cargo in the port comes from Belarus,” the press service informed.
